Intimate Backyard Wedding in Northern Virginia

I’ve been looking forward to Kendall and Jake’s big wedding day at the Middleburg Barn for almost a year! These two have been together for over seven years and were planning a huge bash to celebrate their wedding day, but things quickly changed for them and they had to switch up plans for a backyard wedding instead.

Just 7 days before their wedding the governor rolled out new COVID mandates that brought the gathering limits back down to 25 people. However, Jake and Kendall, along with the help from their incredible planner Ari, came up with an alternative plan. They would save the big celebration for next summer and instead have an intimate microwedding at Kendall’s family home for just their closest family members and wedding party.

On the big day Kendall and Jake got ready at their respective family homes and opted to skip a look to see each other for the first time at the aisle. Kendall was stunning in a gorgeous Pnina Tornai gown and white heels that her grandmother had hand sown pieces of her mother’s wedding dress to. Jake had the best reaction to seeing her coming down the aisle!

After the ceremony the guests gathered to watch their first dance and parent dances before we headed out to Oatlands Historic House and Gardens. Kendall and Jake had done their engagement session here back in 2019 so it was only fitting we head back there for their portraits. The families and entire wedding party came along as well!

The day wrapped up with a little drive-by parade of guests who couldn’t attend due to the gathering limits and an intimate dinner with their wedding party. While we’d been out taking portraits the ceremony space had been flipped to hold a long banquet table for Jake, Kendall and their closest friends to enjoy the rest of the evening.

All though this year’s wedding day wasn’t quite what was it expected, it was such a beautiful celebration! I can’t wait to photograph Jake and Kendall again this summer at the Middleburg Barn! Until then enjoy a few of my favorites from their backyard wedding!
