I met Carrie and Johnny in 2019 when I captured their surprise proposal on the Georgetown waterfront. The love they have for each other is so evident, and their positivity and hope through the year of uncertainty made this Riverside on the Potomac wedding one that I was so excited about. There were so many special details that Carrie and Johnny’s wedding had to make it a day focused on love, light, and happiness. They took on a lot of DIY projects, such as Carrie creating hand made luminaries as wedding favors, designing the invitation suite, making the signage, and the putting together the photo booth. Carrie and Johnny wanted their day to symbolize a new beginning and bring a lot of hope and optimism to themselves as a couple and their guests after such a crazy year.
The day started with a relaxed morning hanging out and getting ready on Riverside on the Potomac’s sprawling farm property. There are so many beautiful locations to get ready and take portraits! Carrie and Johnny saved their first look for the ceremony, but they did exchange gifts with written cards to each other. Carrie and her father then shared a first look before we started the individual bridal portraits.
The forecast was calling for rain and the clouds were rolling in, but we were just hoping it would hold out until the reception. We were able to get through the ceremony and portraits before it started to fall! The ceremony was a deeply personal and emotional celebration. As they exchanged vows, there wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd. Most of the guests were moved to tears by Carrie and Johnny’s words. Carrie even included some of the entries from her journal when she first met Johnny and throughout their relationship over the years!
Not everything goes to plan during a wedding, and there was a slight moment of panic during the ceremony when we realized Johnny’s wedding band had been left up at the house. A guest quickly hopped up to loan his band for the ring exchange though! There was a small ring exchange with the correct wedding band with the wedding party and family after. After a ceremony full of emotion, it was time for the party! The night ended on a high of dancing, good times, and love.
Carrie and Johnny, it has been so wonderful to get to know you both over the past two years! Your wedding day was beautiful from beginning to end and I had such a wonderful time capturing it. I can’t wait to see where life takes you two next!
