Torie and I met back at JMU (Go Dukes!) so I was excited when her name popped up in my inbox last summer! Alex had proposed recently during a family trip to Tybee Island, and had successfully surprised Torie. He even got his sister to help capture the memory!
Alex and Torie wanted a fall backdrop in the valley so we drove down toward the Blue Ridge Parkway, stopping at Swannanoa Palace to begin. This beautiful mansion was built back in 1912 by James Dooley, for his wife. Any Richmonders might recognize his name since he also owned the beautiful Maymont estate! The marble palace was modeled after villas in Italy and has so many spots around the gardens for photos!
After we had finished wandering around Swannanoa Palace, they swapped into some comfier clothes and we drove down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Raven’s Roost Overlook for the second half of their photos. Unsurprisingly, since it was such a nice day the overlook was packed! I think we counted four other engagement sessions also taking place at the same time. Luckily, there’s plenty of space to move around at Raven’s roost and we were all able to enjoy an amazing sunset and the Blue Ridge’s fall colors. Torie and Alex had even packed some cute props – pumpkins, a cozy plaid blanket and mugs of hot cocoa!
I can’t wait to see these Torie and Alex again soon! They kick off my first wedding of the season this May at Veritas Vineyard in Charlottesville!
