Nik & Jessica || Skyline Drive Engagement Session

As a JMU alum and former resident of the Shenandoah Valley there are few places I love doing a session more than Shenandoah National Park. Any time a couple chooses to do a Skyline Drive engagement session I get so excited to drive back!

Jessica reached out to me in June to capture her and Nik’s engagement photos. She and Nik love the outdoors and really wanted a mountain backdrop for their engagement photos. This little overlook on Skyline Drive is perfect for photos! It has lots of space at the top to walk along the road and enjoy the scenery. Tucked among the overgrowth is a hidden path that takes you to the most amazing view. You might even miss it if you didn’t know that it was there!

Jessica and Nik embraced the fun at the session, which I loved. They kicked off their engagement session with some tequila shots (in custom wedding shot glasses I might add!). Their adorable pup, Tater, even joined to snuggle up for some! I loved how open they were to try all my crazy posing directions, laugh and be goofy with each other. It really encompassed all that an engagement session is supposed to be. It’s all about having fun with each other!

Throughout the session we had to dodge cars while shooting portraits on the road, but managed to enjoy a fairly quiet day at the overlook. It wasn’t until the very end, when we headed back down the secluded path to the overlook for the second time that we ended up with a lot of company. Other park visitors were great sports though. We had a piece of the overlook to ourselves so we could capture portraits without blocking anyone’s view of the sunset.

Jessica and Nik, I had so much fun working with you two and am so excited to see where life takes you next. I know your wedding celebration is going to a beautiful one and I’m so happy for you two. Congratulations!
