While I love seeing how my brides bring their wedding day to life there’s something special about creating for yourself. When I got the opportunity to create this black and berry wedding inspiration last fall I was so excited! Most of the time I capture other people’s visions– which I love to do! Styled editorial shoots give wedding vendors the opportunity to create something of their own though. I knew I wanted to create something unique when I began planning this session.
Bridal sessions have been on my mind for a few months now– especially since I started offering them in my packages- but I wanted this one to be just a little bit untraditional. Whites and pastels can be abundant in the world of weddings so I focused on bright berry tones while we planned. A black wedding dress created contrast and gave the session a little moody edge so it would stand out from more traditional bridals online. The perfect backdrop for our editorial was Goodstone Inn and Restaurant, tucked in the countryside outside of Washington D.C. The gorgeous ivy walls and open fields create an atmosphere of romance and history at the Middleburg B&B.
The other vendors and I were inspired by creative, offbeat brides and the bold choices fit perfectly once we were all at Goodstone Inn. The black dress was moody, but romantic and the pinks and golds added a nice romantic touch. Despite all the contrast and moodiness we wanted to emphasize flowers– in particular the cafe au lait dahlias that took center stage. They were repeated in our bouquet and table pieces, the wax seal on our invitation suite and stamped in gold on the wedding cake. We blended vintage furniture, lush florals, handmade pottery and lots of sweets to create inspiration that was fierce, feminine and fun for out of the box brides with attention to detail.
I can’t thank the team enough who were quick to join in on my out of the box vision and help bring it to life. I’d have nothing to photograph if it wasn’t for their hard work.
