This blog post is long overdue! Because of a crazy fall wedding season I fell a little behind on blogging, but am happy to kick things back off again with Anthony & Jessica’s Old Town Alexandria wedding!
Jessica and Anthony first reached out to me back in January of 2019. They described a wedding that celebrated their new home and love for their city. They had recently moved from Michigan to Alexandria. While they were planning a larger reception back in Michigan, wanted to have their ceremony and an intimate celebration here in Virginia first. As Jessica put it they were planning a “very Alexandrian wedding”. The day focused on showcasing some of their favorite locations and first home together.
We started the day at the Alexandrian Hotel for their details and getting ready photos. Their yellow color palette and fall florals were perfect for a September wedding! Once everyone was ready we walked over to the historic Christ Church. This beautiful little church is tucked right in the heart of Old Town. It was originally constructed in 1773. You can even still sit in George Washington’s pew!
Before the ceremony Jessica and Anthony chose to share a first look so they could have a moment to themselves. Since it was a little bit drizzly Jessica had brought along her yellow umbrella, a reference to the tv show How I Met Your Mother. Throughout the day there were lots of little touches of yellow and Anthony also wore a yellow umbrella pin! Their first look is probably some of my favorite reactions I’ve ever gotten to capture. These two were so excited to see each other!
After the ceremony and some group photos, Jessica and Anthony set aside almost two hours for their portraits! Because they really wanted to showcase Old Town Alexandria, we had mapped out a course around the city to all of their favorite spots. We visited their favorite restaurants, cobblestone streets, and even rode the trolley! The day wrapped up with a beautiful private dinner at the Chart House on the waterfront.
Jessica and Anthony, congratulations! I love your focus on celebrating your new life together and creating a wedding day that reflected you two and your values as a couple. It was an honor to get to play a small part. I can’t wait to see all that life has in store for you two!
