Kirsten & Tommy || Jewel-Toned Shadow Creek Wedding

This wedding took me forever to compile into a blog post because I just had so many favorite images!
Kirsten and Tommy meet at Virginia Tech back in 2014 and had been together for almost five years when they tied the knot this fall at Shadow Creek. The pair are joyful, genuine and clearly head over heels for each other. I have loved getting to spend time getting to know them over the past two years. Their wedding day was full of personal touches that reflected themselves and made the day so much fun to capture! Kirsten herself described their big day as boho, eclectic and fun!

After a first look in the morning, Kirsten and Tommy exchanged their vows in front of macrame hangings on Shadow Creek’s back patio. The eighteen person bridal party  was dressed in shades of navy, emerald and burgundy and included three bridesmen – Kirsten’s good friend and her twin brothers. Sawyer, their rescue pup also walked down the aisle!

The boho touches and jewel-toned palette continued on into the reception.  Macrame hangings were draped over the bride and groom’s chairs and a greenery installation hung over the head table. The guests tables were decorated with jewel-toned runners and bud vases each with a colorful flower.

The coolest personal touch was the Shakespearean sonnet about their merging Spotify accounts written by Kirsten. It was only fitting since she’s an English teacher! The rewritten prologue to Romeo and Juliet explained the naming of their head tables. All of them were named after the couples favorite music – Taylor Swift and 80’s head bangers.

Tommy and Kirsten placed a big focus on giving their guests the best experience possible. An important piece of this was the food! They offered a full s’mores bar and fire pit for their guests.  Inside there was also a dessert bar stocked with autumn-themed sweets. This included not only a delicious cake, but salted caramel apple mousse shooters, bourbon cupcakes, cinnamon roll cookies, and chai and samoa donuts. If guests weren’t in the mood for something sugary they could stop by the cigar bar instead and enjoy a break from the dance floor.

To top it off my favorite detail of the night was Kirsten and Tommy’s custom jean jackets. The backs were emblazoned with ‘Mr. and Mrs. Cleary’ on the backs respectively. To add even more of a twist, Tommy ditched his dress pants for a fun pair of Chubbies shorts to dance the night away!

Kirsten and Tommy, thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your lives the past two years! It’s meant so much to get to know you and capture these memories for you. Congratulations and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for you two next!
