This blog post is a long time coming, but it is one of my favorite sessions of 2018!

A few months back I launched my new website, and along with it gave away two spots to my fall mini sessions. Everybody entered on Instagram and by signing up for my newsletter and at the end of the week I used a random generator to select the two winners. Tomi was one of the winners! I had taken her JMU graduation portraits a few months back. I was thrilled to get to work with her a second time and meet her boyfriend, Alex! They picked out their time slot and planned to drive up from Harrisonburg in two weeks for their session.

Little did Tomi know, I got an email from Alex the day after she had won telling me he planned to surprise her by proposing during the session! We emailed back and forth a few times working out the details, but since they were down in Harrisonburg we wouldn’t be able to meet until the day of.

On the day of the proposal I was able to scout out a few different locations. I ended up picking out a small path off to the side of the park because of it’s privacy and in hopes that no one would wander into the background. I had Tomi and Alex pose for a few photos to start before asking to Tomi to turn around for the next picture. Alex quickly got into position and I told Tomi to never mind and actually spin back around. She turned back to find Alex waiting on one knee!

It was so special to get to witness this moment and take some newly engaged portraits for these two! Tomi and Alex I could not be more excited for you two! It was so wonderful to get to capture this moment and I wish you two all the best!!
