The sun has finally returned to Virginia, and it was just in time for Khanita and Luan’s engagement session on the waterfront in Old Town Alexandria. Khanita and Luan have been together since high school! Mutual friends first introduced them and they bonded through their shared love of music and cards games and surviving math class together. Over the years they even spent part of the relationship apart at colleges in separate states. Then in the winter, after being together almost eleven years, Luan proposed at the Botanical Gardens greenhouse. Khanita’s best friend and sister were even in on it and there to capture the moment!

Soon after Khanita saw pictures I posted of her friends Katrina and Michael from their engagement session at Great Falls. She reached out and we set a date a few months out for a summer engagement session. The pair share a love of the outdoors and wanted to find some place near the water for their portraits. I immediately thought of the Potomac River and we ended up in Old Town Alexandria for their session.

After starting at a coffee shop in Old Town and roaming some of the cobblestone streets we headed to the waterfront for sunset. We lucked out by having one of the main piers almost completely to ourselves and a beautiful sunset peeking out over the top of the buildings. It was a gorgeous day despite the heat, and the first time I’ve had sun at a session in over a month!

Khanita and Luan, thank you so much for trusting me to capture this special time in your life together. I loved getting to spend time with you two and learn more about you! I cant wait to have you two in front of my camera again!
